The employment in UK is granted considering the compliance of the candidate with prescribed statutory standards and guidelines. These mention of proper screening and clearance of the candidate after conduct of screening. Moreover based on the job specification, there are different standards of screening termed as security vetting.
The application of BS7858:2006 standard is applicable in respect of commercial sector more particularly the companies involved in providing security services like providing security guards, dealing with secure waste disposal and provision of Alarms installations.
This standard has very wide range and respective terms and include employees whose job relates to acquiring, or accessing, the equipment or the information, by virtue of which potentially can put the organization or its client in situation of security risk.
The BPSS standard has the application to employment in the public sector it gets deviated covering certain private sector employment also like:
• Specifically Civil servant employees.
• Members of Armed forces members.
• Contractors working for Government.
• Employment of Temporary staff having employment in the above type of organizations.
• Supply chain companies where the request is made.
There are occasions when BPSS checks are often requested through the services of a supply chain; in case the company places tenders related to working for making supply of prime contractor to the Government there shall often existence of the requirement to ensure that the company has its staff were subjected to screening conforming to the minimum BPSS requirements.
In quite contrast to BS7858:2006, the BPSS standard follows higher levels of screening based on the kind of employment of the candidate. Moreover higher levels of employment like CTC, SC and DV can be carried out by obtaining authorization from approved contractor.
